Standards Conversion
The highest level of standards conversion is a four-field vector based process
using a Snell & Wilcox Alchemist Phc digital standards converter. This unit performs a clean
conversion of horizontally moving information such as pans, wipes or
superimposed keys as well as making indiscernible scene
changes by performing a clean edit between cuts. All of the Alchemist's processing is done in a
10 bit digital method and all video signals are routed digitally to eliminate unwanted noise and
signal loss.
The next level is a four-field linear conversion. This method
provides an exceptionally high level of digital standards conversion and incorporates
enhancements such as video noise reduction, horizontal and vertical edge enhancement, horizontal and vertical colour placement, horizontal and vertical image placement, advanced colour correction and advanced colour balance adjustments.
The final level is a two-field conversion that is geared toward consumer conversions. It
meets all industrial expectations, and the price is more in line with that of the retail industry
and is used where a broadcast quality level of conversion may not be required.
